He was born in Fuentedetodos, Zaragoza, on 30 March 1746. At the age of 12 he learns the baroque style. In 1763 he moves to Madrid to work as a Court painter. In 1771 he travels to Italy, where he is influenced by the Italian artists. He worked at the Royal Factory of tapestries of Santa Barbara and in 1789 he became a portrait painter for the Spanish Court. In 1792 he was struck down by an illness which left him permanently deaf. He died in Bordeaux in 1828. Among his most outstanding works we can point out: El Parasol, La Vendimia, Cristo Crucificado, Maja Desnuda, La Familia de Carlos IV, …
